Adopt-A-Stream

What is the Adopt-a-Stream program?

Adopt a stream in your neighborhood and make a difference in your community. You can improve water quality and the habitat of small neighborhood streams when we pick up trash, label storm drains and educate neighbors about how to become stream stewards.

Why Adopt a Stream?
Baba Dioum gave us the reason in 1968.  "In the end, we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught."  Splash in the stream, explore the stream, get to know the stream and then take care of the stream.

Who has Adopted Streams in Mill Creek?

  • Cumberland River Compact
  • Tennessee Environmental Council
  • Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association

What Does it Involve?
Adoptions are for a period of 2 years and require at least one stream clean up per year and the stenciling of storm drains leading to the adopted stream segment. A sign acknowledging the adopting group and stream as well as supplies and trash removal are provided by Metro.
